The NFL Combine is Back to Indy! 🏈
The NFL combine returns to Indianapolis this week at Lucas Oil Stadium. Happening February 26 - March 1st. For us Hoosiers, it’s actually sort of a big deal: the NFL combine created $9.26M in economic impact in 2025, and we are expecting 30,000 visitors in town this week. According to Axios, “Earlier this year, local tourism leaders announced the combine would remain a Circle City staple through 2028,” which is a win for our local economy.
This got me thinking, what are the largest weeks / weekends for economic impact in Indy?
Well, I ran the numbers, and found out!
Now, to have my Airbnb operations manager jack up some rates! Need an Airbnb? I have some. Without further ado…
🏨 In 2026, short-term rental investors can expect these weekends to garner the most in-bound travelers & guests!
I am using Airbnb dynamic pricing, and online data, to come up with these rankings, so please do not take this as authoritative fact and please don’t sue me if I’m wrong here.
#1. 🏎️ Indianapolis 500 — Memorial Day Weekend, Sunday May 24th, 2026
This is the biggest winner — by a mile (no pun intended). Indy expects 350,000+ visitors in town, with an economic impact of ~$330M from the race day itself (IBJ).
👉 This is the “big weekend” for Indy on display. This weekend is booked up first on Airbnb and other short-term rental sites, as well as major hotel compression.

The largest single sporting event by attendance, anywhere in the world. 2025 had over 350,000 in attendance 🤯
#2. 🏀 NCCA Men’s Final Four — April 4-6th 2026
This one is coming up — fast! Indy expects ~80,000–120,000+ visitors for this weekend long event. Expected economic impact is ~$100M–$175M (IBJ).
👉 Indianapolis vies hard to obtain men’s or women’s final four events, and maintains a deep NCAA partnership. Indy currently hosts the event every 4-6 years, and the event is hosted at Lucas Oil Stadium.
#3. 🏁 Brickyard NASCAR Weekend — July 25-26th, 2026
This is a huge motorsports weekend with historically large impact from Speedway ecosystem. Two main events happen: Pennzoil 250 and the Brickyard 400 on July 26 at IMS. Indy expects ~100,000+ to attend with an estimated economic impact around $120M (IMS).
👉 Further proof of the year-round economic engine that is the motor speedway, with a major hospitality spillover.
#4. 🦸 Gen Con Weekend — July 30–August 2, 2026
This is a annual event, happening during peak summer in Indy. It’s the “Big Convention", so to speak. Indy expects ~72,000 attendees and an estimated economic impact of $80M+ (Gen Con).
👉 Arguably one of the best weekends to illustrate the value of downtown convention infrastructure, hotel inventory, and mixed-use development.
#5. 🏈 Big Ten Football Championship Weekend — December 5, 2026
I went this past year to see my Hoosiers defeat the undefeated (at the time) Buckeyes. It was lit. This is a consistent annual sports tourism driver with strong downtown concentration. Indy expects ~70,000 visitors and an estimated economic impact of ~$20M (WRTV).
👉 Great example of recurring, dependable sports-event demand supporting downtown hospitality and year-end traffic.
Moral of the Story: 2024 was the peak year for Indy tourism. Indianapolis Airport reported over 10M passengers, a record. Indianapolis was a major destination for the Solar Eclipse, Taylor Swift Era’s Tour, USA Olympic Swim Trials, and NBA All-Star Weekend. However, 2026 is expected to be one of the largest years for tourism, as well, as we are seeing steady regional & national tourism. Let’s go INDY.

The new high-rise Hilton Signia is further proof of Indy’s tourism dominance. This luxury hotel, connected to Lucas Oil Stadium and the Convention Center, will have 800 suites for guests. Expected to open Fall 2026.
